There was a release announcment on Freshmeat.net last night for a new version of the AVR Cross Development Kit. The CDK4AVR includes a comprehensive collection of tools to create a cross development environment on Linux for the Atmel AVR RISC microcontrollers. All the software has been collected and packaged with the goal making installation as easy as possible. Among the tools included are assemblers, disassemblers, binutils, the GNU gcc C/C++ compiler, the GNU GDB debugger, simulators, JTAG utilities, libraries, a collection of in-system programmers for a wide range of hardware, a flash and EEPROM downloader, and even some example AVR programs. And don't forget, there's still time to enter the Circuit Cellar AVR design contest.
