Roland Piquepaille emailed to tell us about his most recent blog entry in which he talks about Pearl, a robot designed to care for the elderly. In additional Roland's weblog entry, you can read about Pearl in a recent Pittsburgh Post Gazette article, a Washington Post article, a Slashdot article, and the press release from the University of Michigan which prompted the recent articles. Want to know more about the Pearl robot? Check out the paper (PDF format) on the robot written by the robot's creators as part of the CMU Nursebot project. It has details on the robot's processors, sensors, navigation algorithms, and control archtitecture. You can find lots additional photos of Pearl and the other Nursebot robots in Nursebot image gallery.
