Officials at the US Homeland Security Department's Bureau of Customs and Border Protection want to use unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to patrol the US/Mexico border. Starting in June, they'll get their wish when their first two UAVs start partolling the Arizona border with Mexico. While they haven't decided on a UAV for wide deployment yet, their testing will begin with two fully autonomous Hermes 450 UAVs manufactured by Elbit Systems Ltd. in Haifa, Israel. More details are available in a recent Federal Computer Week article.
