Generation 5 has posted a story based on the undergraduate dissertation of the site's webmaster, James Matthews, titled, "Anime and the Acceptance of Robotics in Japan: A Symbiotic Relationship" (PDF format). Robots in Japanese anime from Astro Boy to Akira are discussed. The paper suggests a relationship between Japanese pop-culture's image of robots and the acceptance of real robots in Japan.
