PicForth: A Forth Compiler for PICs

Posted 9 Nov 2004 at 17:46 UTC by steve Share This

According to a new Freshmeat.net announcement, there's now a Forth compiler for PICs. PicForth targets PIC 16F8xx microcontrollers. It was originally developed by Samuel Tardieu for use in controlling model railroads with DCC. While PicForth is not (yet) a complete ANS Forth implementation, it does have potential applications for robotics. David McNab has written a detailed review of PicForth. On the PicForth website, you can find complete documentation, a mailing list, and a Wiki for developers. PicForth is Free Software licensed under the GNU GPL. Okay, be nice, no jokes about write-only languages or references to YodaBASIC!
