A CMU press release reveals that the CMU Red Team will be entering two robots in this year's DARPA Grand Challenge. Returning this year is Sandstorm, which is said to be much improved over the version which completed only 7 miles last year. The new robot is called Highlander and will be run by "Red Team Too". Both vehicles are based on Hummers. CMU hopes that the combination of 50 or more team members, two robots, a big budget, and help from corporations like Intel and Boeing may give them the edge they need to beat homebrew robots, high school teams, and even somewhat bizarre entries.
