PIC SuperOptimizer

Daniel Serpell has released SuperOptimizer version 0.2.1. SuperOptimzer is a program that tries to find the shortest sequence of PIC instructions that implement a given function. It currently supports the PICmicro type PICs made by Microchip Technology. SuperOptimizer is free software released under the GNU GPL license.

... if I read this right, this isn't guaranteed to produce correct code, only code that works in a general case. In particular, it looks like it might miss some boundry conditions. I'd be very careful about using this...

That's probably good advice when using any kind of optimizer. Turning off the optimizer on C/C++ compilers is usually one of the first steps when debugging a problem (or, even better, don't even use the optimizer until you've got your code otherwise debugged!). Still, an optimizer for PIC code just seems like a really cool idea!
