The UK Sunday Times has published an article summarizing current work in the field of biomorphic engineering. It describes attempts by scientists to build silicon chips based on the neural structures found in living creatures. It covers work being done by the Dutch Institute for Neuroinformatics and CalTech's Center for Neuromorphic Systems Engineering. This research has applications in both robotics and medicine where researchers hope to develop replacement components to restore sight and hearing in humans.
