The Rossum Project

The Rossum Project hopes to develop a complete set of reliable, ready-to-use free software components for robot builders. They've already produced a two-dimensional simulation environment that can be used to model environments such as the Trinity College Fire-Fighting Home Robot Contest. Their Sourceforge-hosted site offers other tools as well.
