Every year the MIT mechanical engineering students taking the 2.007 Design and Manufacturing I course compete in a robot contest. An MIT news release reveals this year's winners along with photos of the robots and their builders. Each team is provided with a kit containing identical raw materials and control systems. They are also provided with a design handbook that contains all sorts of useful engineering information for robot builders. They use all this stuff to build robots that compete against each other to complete a task. The 2.007 website has lots of photos and video from last year's contest.
