The most recent version of Encoder, the SRS newletter, contains an article by Benny Peter Jørgensen detailing the construction of line following sensors for his robot, Rigel. The requirements were for a line following sensor that would work well indoors and outdoors with very fast response time. The article includes schematics, photos, C source code, and detailed descriptions of the construction and how the sensor works.
