The Swarmanoid Swarms Over Belgium

Posted 30 Nov 2006 at 02:37 UTC by steve Share This

Soon, autonomous eye-bots, hand-bots, and foot-bots will join together, forming the Swarmanoid. According to a recent Wired article, researchers at the Free University of Brussels will be building and experimenting with 60 autonomous bots that form the Swarmanoid. The indivudal swarm-bots are about 116 mm in diameter. Unlike other robot swarms, the robots are not all identical. Some of them have been optimized for certain types of tasks. Other researchers hope to someday produce nanoscopic sized swarmbots that can assemble themselves inside a human body, perform medical procedures, and then disassemble.
