Robot Suit Provides Super Human Strength!

Posted 9 Oct 2007 at 11:59 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This

At a trade fair in Japan this week, a new robot suit to aid the elderly was on display. The Kanagawa Institute of Technology in Japan created this wearable power assist suit to help caregivers lift the elderly. It takes 10 minutes to put it on and get it going and weighs a hefty 66 pounds. Once on, this pneumatic device effectively doubles a person's strength (ie, one could lift a 220 lb person as if they were 110 lbs). Probably, this is more of a prototype as it still takes a long time to put on and doesn't totally take away all the effort to lift a person but it's a step in the right direction for future robot suits.
