Japanese Cyborg Carpenters On the Way

Posted 18 Feb 2008 at 20:00 UTC by steve Share This

Only a few weeks ago we reported on a Japanese Cyborg farmers. Now we're hearing about a special exoskeleton for carpenters. As Gizmodo puts it, wearing this exoskeleton will make you the most powerful carpenter since Jesus. The specialty for this exoskeleton is lifting heavy ceiling boards into an overhead position where they can be quickly screwed into place with little effort. The Japanese researchers describe the device as "a wearable robot". For photos and a longer description of the new robotic exoskeleton, developed by researchers at the Nagayo University in Japan, see the Physorg.com story. Want all the technical details? Check out the research paper, Development of a Wearable Robot for Assist Carpentry Workers (PDF format).
