A generalized software framework for controlling mobile robots called Modular Controller Architecture 2 (MCA-2), has been released by the FZI IDS. MCA-2 is made up of an expandable collection of control and sensor modules that may be connected as needed to provide autonomous, real-time control of a wide range of robotics platforms. The C++ software is designed to run on RTLinux and is Free Software released under the GNU GPL. IDS is working on a variety of other interesting robotics projects.
