Octopus Arms vs. Robot Arms

Posted 7 Sep 2001 at 14:02 UTC by steve Share This

Binyamin Hochner of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has presented new research into how the octopus brain can coordinate the actions of 8 arms with unlimited freedom of movement - it doesn't. Each arm is almost completely autonomous. A summary of the research is available from Nature. The research team's publications are also available online. Robotics researchers hope the new discovery will be the first step in creating a new generation of robotic manipulators.
