NeCoRo: Mutant Cat or Robot Pet?

Posted 16 Oct 2001 at 16:36 UTC by steve Share This

Reuters reports that Omron has introduced NeCoRo, the robot cat they've been working on for a while to compete with the Sony Aibo robot dog. Unlike the Aibo, NeCoRo is covered with fur and looks more like a deformed biological cat or one of those mutant creatures from Japanese movies rather than a robot. An old BBC article is available on the prototype (which is even wierder looking). A few details of the catbot's fuzzy logic processing are available on the Omron web site. They're priced at $1,530 each.
