The annual UN Report on Robotics is out. Robot usage is up everywhere
but investment in robotics is down in the US and Asia. The 360 page report
covers service robots, medical robots, surveillance robots, hobby
robots, AUVs, UAVs, and any other type of robots you can think of. An official summary
of the report is available on the UNECE web site.
MSNBC posted a related
article that talks about the rapidly increasing use of robots caused
by the
most recent wave of Islamic Terrorism around the
world. The post office may be using robots instead of humans to sort
mail. Robots are also being used for surveillance, bomb and hazardous
material disposal, and sentry duty. It is pointed out in the article
that the UN Report was completed prior to the Sept 11 attack and doesn't
reflect the large increase in sales of robots that
has followed those events.
