The High Altitude Glider ProjectPosted 17 Dec 2001 at 17:28 UTC by steve
What happens when a group of friends with an interest in high-altitude
ballooning, HAM packet-radio, R/C sailplanes, and robotics get together?
The High
Altitude Glider Project. The goal of their two-year project is a
gliding UAV that is lifted to 85,000 feet by balloon. From there it is
released and glides back to the launch site autnomously using GPS and
other sensors. The UAV transmits telemetry and images back to the
ground crew during it's flight and also carries a 35mm camera for hi-res photos. A
recent September
test flight reached 11,000 feet.
