The Futurologist Speaks

Posted 19 Jan 2002 at 17:56 UTC by steve Share This

Ian Pearson, "Britains leading futurologist", has issued a bizarre list of predictions about the future of robots and AI. If you get a laugh out of tabloid headlines, you'll love these. Among the things you'll be able to do in the future are jumping out of airplanes while inside of inflatable objects by 2005, having fun with the orgasmatron in 2012, and replacing your brain with an electronic one by 2035. By 2006, Pearson says, robots will be taking GCSE exams. They'll be PhD students by 2015 and will be granted "basic rights" in 2020. By 2030 they will be physically and mentally superior to humans. A BBC article also covers the predictions and, appropriately, includes a photo of Marvin from HHGG.
