NEC has announced a new 64bit RISC microprocessor that delivers 157MIPS while consuming less than 500 milliwatts. Called the VR4181A, the new chip boasts a lot of built in I/O including LCD and LED controllers, touch panel controller, USB, 3 16550 UARTS, I2C, AC97 audio, 3 PWM channels, I2S, IrDA, external DMA, 2 CompactFlash connections, and 64 general-purpose I/O lines. An evaluation board has also been announced. And, yes, it runs Linux.
