The CMU Robotics Institute has released a new technical report entitled Rapid Prototyping of Small Robots. Authored by several CMU researchers including Illah Nourbakhsh and Matt Mason, the document gives lots of pointers for constructing small, mobile robots quickly. It describes the tools and techniques needed and outlines most major areas of concern including control, power, sensors, batteries, and electronics.
