Smalltimes reports on the 3DM-G, a MEMS-based Gyro Enhanced Orientation Sensor made by Microstrain. Original developed for medical applications it has been adopted by the military as a favorite for UAV use because of its "low cost" ($1195USD). The 3DM-G combines three angular rate gyros with three orthogonal accelerometers, three orthogonal magnetometers, and an onboard processor to provide pitch, roll, and yaw information.
