Sprawlita: A Biomimetic Hexapod

Posted 28 Sep 2002 at 14:02 UTC by steve Share This

CNN has posted a new story on Sprawlita, a biomimetic hexapod robot designed by researchers at Stanford University. Sprawlita is based on the common Cockroach and uses a unique method of locomotion in which the six legs are used as to two alternating tripods. Without any type of sensors or complex walking algorithm, Sprawlita can move at several meters per second and walk over obstacles that would stop many hexapods in their tracks. Sprawlita's success has spawned a whole family of Sprawl Robots.
