Fly-Sized Millibots on the Move

Posted 15 Feb 2003 at 03:11 UTC by steve Share This

Mitre Corporation is working on tiny medical nanobots that can perform surgery inside of the human body. An article in the Independent quotes a Mitre researcher as saying that the first prototypes could be ready next year. The tiny prototype robots are called millibots, are about the size of a grain of salt, have six legs, and about the same processing power as an early model PC. Before they could be used for medical purposes, the robots must get smaller and more powerful. A slightly more detailed article can be found in the Guardian.
