The Salt Lake Tribune is running an article on polymer muscles. It centers around the challenge made to the engineering community in 1996 by NASA's Yoseph Bar-Cohen to develop a robot arm actuated by polymer muscles that could beat a human at arm wrestling. No one has done it yet but a lot of progress has been made on polymer materials. For more info on polymer muscles visit NASA's WorldWide Electroactive Polymer Actuators Webhub.
