A new Scientific American article describes the state of the art in voice synthesis technology. New systems have been developed that can give a computer or robot an authentically human voice and can generate speech in real time thanks to projects like IBM's Text-to-Speech Synthesizer.

I make a good QC person, everything fails to work when I enter the room, I don't even have to to8uch anything. Sorry I crashed the demo, I guess I should have stuck to one syllable words. It would have been cool to speak the error message out. But it only displayed it.o talking.
