Wired has an interesting little article by Luc Steels on the differences in spatial perception between man and robot. One of the problems in working with spatial perception is that there are differences among human cultures. He gives examples of how an English speaker vs a speaker of some African languages perceives the concept of "in front of" vs "behind".
