ABC News has an article about Reasonable Computers and The Next Steps in `Artificial Intelligence'. It appears that DARPA has given CMU $7 million to develop cognitive computers as a part of the PAL project (Perceptive Assistant that Learns). CMU's part will be to develop a RADAR (Reflective Agents with Distributed Adaptive Reasoning) system that's kind of like a personal assistant. The PAL project will be for academic, military, and business use. It seems that DARPA wants to see AI grow up so that we all can have smarter more reasonable robots!
