In July we reported on MIT's robot snail, called RoboSnail. Yesterday, MIT announced RoboSnail II, a new and improved model that is smaller and can now emulate all three modes of snail propulsion. Because, the snail robots are completely enclosed in rubber with no exposed joints or mechanical parts, they may be suited for uses in chemically harsh environments. The snail robot research is being done at MIT's Hatsopoulos Microfluids Lab.
