Notes: My name is Sam Porter I live in Newberg Oregon, I am part of the Newberg High School Robotics Team. This school year, 2000-2001, we built a Robot named Jack. Jack is a Humanoid Robotic torso. He has four lead screws that are driven by a 1/2 horse power electric motor that lift Jack out of his box. "His" box is fully equipt with an onboard air-compressor, sound system, PSI gages, computer that we loaded the program into. "He" has fully functional 10 fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, rotating waist, neck (up down and side to side), his eyes are a blue with 5 LEDs in each eye, his cranium is a clear acrilic dome lined with LEDs that are sound activated to flicker with any noise. He was designed totally by Newberg High School students and all the metal parts were machined by students as well right here in our 1950's style machine shop, we figure we must have spent at least 3,000 student hours on this robot. Because of Oregon's lack of school funding all of our lathes and mills were donated, we also have one CNC Mill that we program with Mastercam. Also alot of our funding comes out of our instructors pocket. We recently went to Pittsburg for the RI/SME Robotics Challenge and we swept the competion. Since then Jack has appeared on 4 News Broadcasts, 3 newspapers, and 1 magazine. I could go on but I don't have time or the will power but I will
