I am the publisher of robotstocknews.blogspot.com, a new blog covering all the news about iRobot (IRBT) and its competitors. I think the Roomba, Scooba, Packbot and other iRobot products are in the vanguard of taking robots from a niche to something that will transform modern life in the next ten or twenty years. I am not, at least not yet, a roboticist, or hobbyist, but am fascinated by the growth and creativity abundant in this field today.

At my blog, Robot Stock News, Neato Robotics' VP takes on iRobot's Roomba in an hour-long lecture at the famed Palo Alto Research Center. Fascinating look at how their new XV-11 robot vacuum came to be, including the first consumer laser guidance system under $2,000.
iRobot filed a patent application for a Roomba with a Square-Sided front, which is intended to better clean corners and edges. Pics at the link!
I've uncovered a new 1-pound military micro robot called iRobot Ember. The idea is to send out swarms of these robots to set up and instant wireless communications grid on the battlefield, but there could be a lot of other uses besides.
