Notes: MPEG video vectors could be used to detect objects. this system hopefully couldn't be tricked by shadows or weak edges. Aparently MIT has beaten me to the punch on this one... An issue of "Videre: Journal of computer vision" dated Summer 1999 describes a robot that has wandered around their lab without collisions and without high level path planning for as long as 26 minutes using only motion vector information derived from a video camera.
