Smart Sensors for Autonomous Robots
The Smart Sensors for Autonomous Robots project was a year
long team oriented design project to develop a general
system to automate a non-autonomous robotic platform.
The main thrust of the project was development of a smart
sensor network made of smart sensor modules connected with a
high speed serial rs-485 network. Each module served as a
universal sensor interface and did sensor data preprocessing
before sending the data to the master processor. The master
processor did simple path planning and transmitted a
direction command to the remote control system already
present on the robotic platform.
The project was successful. The systems was furthered by a
group who added GPS to the robot.
