| this is my first robot attempt. it has all the basics, 2 servos, right, left and center IR capability using one detector. the IR is modulated at 40KHZ to filter ambient light. it has a right and left photo resistor for phototropic behaviors. it used 2 bumper contact made from legos and hinges at the center. i used an OOPIC for the controller and is programmed in visual basic. the platform is a jazz disc jewel case. the robots main behavior is to find the brightest spot in a room while avoiding all objects it comes across. the big problem i had with this robot was finding a platform to put it on. i had breadboarded the whole robot before i had anything to put the electronics on. this robot took about 2 weeks to complete and cost around 45 dollars (cost of the oopic) the rest of the parts were spare parts i had at home. all in all, a good first robotic experience.
